What is Healthy Kids Roundup?
Healthy Kids Roundup is like a convention for students and a professional growth opportunity for PE teachers combined into one! Students will spend the day learning about healthy lifestyles, and their PE teacher sponsors will learn about how to promote school-wide health, as well as advocate for strong Health/PE programs in schools.
What do students do at Healthy Kids Roundup?
Middle school students will attend workshop style sessions with topics:
(a) benefits of lifelong physical activity
(b) exercise and health-related fitness
(c) personal and social health in physical activity settings
(d) healthy eating habits + healthy cooking.
** Students also tour campus, visit facilities, and HAVE FUN!
What do PE teacher sponsors do at Healthy Kids Roundup?
PE teacher sponsors will attend separate breakout meetings about:
(a) organizing a school event upon their return to school
(b) writing a ‘request for proposal’ (RFP) for funding a school event
(c) hosting an American Heart Association fund raiser
(d) advocating for physical education + professional networking
** Teachers also tour/visit campus and network with university and state PE advocates
Who is eligible to participate in Healthy Kids Roundup?
Physical education teachers who instruct students in 6th through 8th grades may apply and can bring up to 6 students each to the event in Laramie on the UW campus.
